Åre Adventure festival - a seven day adrenaline rush

To experience the most exciting week this summer why not go to Åre, Sweden on June 28. For seven days the small but adventurous town in the north of Sweden offers you and your friends loads of competitions, courses, fairs, movies, hearings and parties non-stop. The adventure festival (Åre Äventyrsfestival) is held all in the name of adventure and topped up with as much adrenalin as you can possibly wish for.

A new freeriding area for downhill bikers has been built for this occasion and at the MTB -testcentre you can check out a Wole lot of cool gear and all the hottest new bikemodels on the market. The mountainbike hillsprint competition runs down a northshore -inspired course, but for all of those too scared to get on it there is also a slightly easier trail running on the side. The winner in the Hillsprint ompetition will be the proud owner of the M65 Cell Phone from Siemens with a built in bike computer.

Åre Extreme Challenge, also known as the Nordic Championships of Adventure Racing, also takes place in Åre during the festival. The ÅEC course is divided into three stage races and starts with kayaking from the beautiful waterfalls of Tännforsen, continues with a cross country running race over the mountain Åreskutan and ends with a cross country biketrail back to Åre.

A lot of spectators are expected to visit Åre to check out the competitions held during the festival. For example Åre Äventyrs Festival hosts the Scandinavian Championships in longboard, the Nordic Championships in rafting and the Swdish Cup in kayak slalom and DH Paragliding XC, and Åre Boulder Open. Visitors are also warmly welcome to attend some of the courses held duning the week. For example we offer courses in white water rafting, kayaking and climbing.

Åre is the best place to be if you are looking for excellent swedish paragliding conditions. Åreskutan is 1050 metres high and offers great paragliding in most directions. During the festival acro paragliding -shows will be held by some of the worlds best paragliders.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival also visits Åre during the week and features the Swedish premieres on some of the worlds coolest adventureflicks.

sweet, it is only a pity it is so freakin far up north you have to fly

is there an airport too??

i was in stockholm last week and i heard that aare is over 6 hours away from stockholm, is that true??

Too late to go but there is an airport in a nearby city called östersund. I think it is about an hour drive from there. You can always take the train or the bus I am sure. I have been to Åre in the summer and the winter, it is definately a place to see.
